New iPhone 16e unveiled

Apple iPhone 16e

Apple iPhone 16e

This week Apple has finally launched a new iPhone for its 16 lineup. This is, perhaps, one of those releases where the tech community has been gossiping for quite some time and it has finally been revealed.

This new device is now incorporated into Apple's existing line of phones by replacing the outdated iPhone SE 3rd generation - the iPhone 16e - the new member of the family. With this new release, Apple has also officially removed the iPhones 14 and 14 plus from its website store.

Aside from the fact that a new iPhone has been released, many users thought Apple was going to release other products during this event, but it has not happened YET.

This new iPhone, after its release, has certainly divided opinions on social media channels most certaintly because its technical specification, but also because its price tag.

I believe some users were expecting to see a new variant of iPhone such as the “iPhone Air”, which is a device that has cause many rumours but Apple itself has not confirmed anything yet, although I believe this is a model which we shall see during the later event in the year when Apple will launch new devices to replace the iPhone 16 line. I’m personally excited to see the new iPhone 16e in person, even though it somehow reminded me of iPhone XR with flatter sides.

Key Differences when compared to its older brother iPhone SE 3Gn and the standard iPhone 16:

  • Display: The iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 feature larger 6.1-inch OLED displays, offering more vibrant colours and better contrast compared to the iPhone SE's 4.7-inch LCD.

  • Processor & Performance: The iPhone 16e is equipped with the A18 chip, providing improved performance over the A15 in the iPhone SE. The iPhone 16 boasts the latest A18 chip as well, delivering top-tier performance.

  • Camera: The iPhone 16e introduces a 48MP wide camera (with a 2-in-1 camera system), a significant upgrade from the 12MP camera in the iPhone SE. The iPhone 16 adds a 12MP ultra wide lens for enhanced photography versatility.

  • Authentication: The iPhone SE utilizes Touch ID, while both the iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 have transitioned to Face ID for user authentication.

  • Port: The iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 have adopted the USB-C port, aligning with modern connectivity standards, whereas the iPhone SE retains the traditional Lightning port.

  • Battery Life: The iPhone 16e offers extended battery life with up to 17 hours of video playback, surpassing the iPhone SE's 13 hours. The iPhone 16 further extends this to 20 hours.

  • Water Resistance: The iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 have enhanced water resistance with an IP68 rating, compared to the iPhone SE's IP67 rating.

  • Price: The iPhone 16e starts at $599 (or $999 AUD), positioned between the more affordable iPhone SE at $729 AUD and the iPhone 16 at $1,399 AUD.

Additionally, while is worthing knowing the key differences of these models, there’re a some key points that might be worthing your consideration before buying the new iPhone 16e such as: it does not offer support for MagSafe accessories, has a slightly less powerful GPU which may affect performance in graphics-intensive applications, no dedicated camera button, and no Always-On display.

Extras:

According to rumours across social media channels, it seems that Apple is yet to release new products by latest March - what could that be? Perhaps a new MacBook Air with support to a new Apple chipset M4 or an actual iPhone Air model?

I am certainly excited to see what the new products will look like as well as their technical specifications, especially considering that the current M3 MacBook Air is a pretty solid choice of laptop for someone who does not want to spend too much money, but still wants great performance overall.
