Well, I think this is easily the most interesting release Apple made during this event: the iPhone 17. Am I the only one who thinks the standard iPhone 17 brings pretty much everything users have ever wanted in a phone without actually breaking the bank?

When I look at what Apple did with this phone this year, it honestly makes me wonder what the point of the standard 17 Pro is. The gap between the two, in terms of functionality, is closer than it’s ever been. Of course, the 17 Pro still has features you can only get on a Pro model, but even so, the iPhone 17 has become a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade or move to iOS.

The iPhone 17 was announced this week with some interesting new features, along with noticeable design changes. Starting with the display, the standard model now features a 6.3” Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion for smoother scrolling and better efficiency, powered by the new A19 processor. It also comes with Ceramic Shield 2 on both the front and back for improved scratch resistance, Apple Intelligence, and iOS 26 with the new Liquid Glass design.

On the camera side, the iPhone 17 features a 48MP Fusion main camera with an optical-quality 2x telephoto, alongside a new 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera that captures expansive scenes and macro photos in much more detail. The iPhone 17 is now available starting at 256GB and comes in five new colours: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white (Mist Blue and Sage easily being my favourites). The cameras also introduce Centre Stage, which lets you take landscape photos without needing to rotate the device.

When you compare this model to the rest of the lineup, it’s genuinely hard to find any real drawbacks. This is easily one of the best options for anyone looking for an iPhone that delivers an almost full Apple experience at a more affordable price.

The iPhone 17 feels like a much-needed upgrade, especially when compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 16. It brings everything that model was missing, and I’m confident it will satisfy pretty much anyone who chooses it. Between the upgraded cameras, improved display with Always-On, and overall performance, it’s hard not to recommend this as an iPhone you’d be happy to have by your side every day.
